Shopping
There's plenty of shopping within a few minutes drive. Hollywood Plaza, with a wide variety of retail outlets, and Stockland Parabanks, in the heart of Salisbury Town Centre, are the two largest.
Parabanks has more than 75 specialty stores, including a fresh food market, Woolworths, Bi-Lo and BigW. Parking is available for 1400 cars.
Multi million dollar retail developments are also planned for Mawson Lakes Town Centre and Walkley Heights.
Education
Direk School caters to the learning needs of about 650 students to Year 7 and incorporates a pre-school as well as primary curriculum. The school backs onto picturesque Lake Windermere, and local wetlands are within walking distance. Edinburgh RAAF base is close by.
Direk primary students may go on to Salisbury High, Paralowie R-12, Gepps Cross Girls High, Salisbury East, Thomas Moore College and Trinity College.
Some 20 kindergartens and pre-schools, more than 30 primary schools and 10 secondary schools are located within the City of Salisbury's boundaries.
The region also features Para Institute of TAFE, and the University of South Australia's Mawson Lakes campus, renowned for its information technology, engineering, science and environmental studies.
Recreation
The City of Salisbury has many recreational facilities including more than 70 playgrounds. Beautiful parks, reserves and wetlands attract both residents and visitors to the city, which has long been regarded as an environmental innovator particularly for its world-leading wetlands programs.
There are four recreation centres, tennis, netball, basketball courts, a host of outdoor sports fields and a public swimming pool.
The city has five libraries and six neighbourhood houses for people to explore recreational and educational opportunities. Its annual On The Fringe arts festival is a standout event, complementing a sustained calendar of fairs and other special occasions for the city.
Transport
Two public transport hubs at Salisbury and Mawson in the city enable people to travel quicker and faster than ever before. The latest, the $33 million Mawson Transit Interchange, opened in 2006 and links bus and rail services with car, cycle and pedestrian access.
These public transport facilities are being promoted as offering travel to:
- The CBD within 17 minutes
- The north western Adelaide beaches within 15 minutes
- West Lakes Mall shopping centre within 13 minutes
- AAMI Stadium within 13 minutes and
- Port of Adelaide within 7 minutes.
Fast highway conditions also link Salisbury with Adelaide CBD.
